CANOPY ARTWORK
Polycarbonate sheets covered with blue and orange vinyl umbrellas.
The design is a visual pun – both the canopy and the umbrellas offer protection from rain and sun.
The positioning of the umbrellas has a rhythm and uses repetition, enabling the nursery children
below to play a ‘mix and match’ game. The vinyl is stuck to the top of the polycarbonate sheets,
rather than underneath. Therefore, in certain lights, the canopy appears to have lots of umbrellas on
top of it, initially puzzling the children and offering an element of wonder.
